“World Cinema Day”
THE LESSON (Bulgaria)- 7:30PM
In a small Bulgarian town, Nade is an honest, hard-working elementary school teacher struggling to keep her life together. Her unemployed, alcoholic husband has secretly spent their mortgage payements on booze, and now the bank is threatening to auction off the house where they live with their young daughter. The agency where she translates legal documents to English for extra cash is going under and unable to pay her what she's due, and a thief in her class has stolen the last few dollars out of her purse. With few options left, she solicits help from a local loan shark who is happy to give her what she needs at a steep price. With the reposession looming, Nade will resort to measures her former self, untouched by the realities of economic desperation and moral compromise, would have found depraved, as she makes one last extreme effort to secure the money she needs.
THE DUKE OF BURGUNDY (UK)- 7:00PM
Day after day, Cynthia (Sidse Babett Knudsen) and Evelyn (Chiara D'Anna) act out a simple yet provocative ritual that ends with Evelyn's punishment and pleasure. “Documentary Film Day”
MY LIFE DIRECTED BY NICOLAS WINDING REFN- 7:30PM and 9:00PM
In the tradition of HEARTS OF DARKNESS, director LivCorfixen reveals an impossibly personal portrait of her husband, auteur Nicolas Winding Refn, as he struggles to complete the controversial and polarizing ONLY GOD FORGIVES.
REVENGE OF THE MEKONS (a Rock and Reel film presentation)- 7:00PM
"The Mekons are the most revolutionary group in the history of rock 'n' roll" - rock critic Lester Bangs. A genre-defying collective who emerged from the 1977 British punk scene, The Mekons progressed from socialist art students with no musical skills to the prolific, raucous progeny of Hank Williams. The film follows their improbable history - a surprising and influential embrace of folk and country music; forays into the art world (collaborations with Vito Acconci and Kathy Acker); and consistent bad luck with major record labels. Fans Jonathan Franzen, Luc Sante, Will Oldham, Mary Harron, Fred Armisen, and Greil Marcus testify to the power of their music and their artistic innovations. REVENGE OF THE MEKONS reveals how, four decades into an ever-evolving career, The Mekons continue to make bold, unpredictable music while staying true to the punk ethos.

“Deception Day”
WILD CANARIES- 7:30PM
Barri (Sophia Takal) and Noah (writer-director Lawrence Michael Levine), a newly engaged Brooklyn couple, are disheartened by the death of their elderly downstairs neighbor, Sylvia. Though Noah sees nothing unusual about the old woman's death, Barrisuspects foul play and sets out to investigate, enlisting her roommate Jean (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT'S Alia Shawkat) to join her on a reconnaissance mission to trail a possible suspect. Tensions mount, however, when the investigation uncovers unsettling secrets throughout the building—including in their own apartment—and suddenly everyone seems like a reasonable suspect.  Boasting a stellar supporting cast including Jason Ritter (PARENTHOOD), Kevin Corrigan (THE DEPARTED), and Annie Parisse (THE FOLLOWING), WILD CANARIES is a freshly comedic take on classic film noir.
AN HONEST LIAR- 7:00PM
AN HONEST LIAR is a feature documentary about the world-famous magician, escape artist, and world-renowned enemy of deception, James 'The Amazing' Randi. The film brings to life Randi's intricate investigations that publicly exposed psychics, faith healers, and con-artists with quasi-religious fervor. A master deceiver who came out of the closet at the age of 81, Randi created fictional characters, fake psychics, and even turned his partner of 25 years, the artist Jose Alvarez, into a sham guru named Carlos. But when a shocking revelation in Randi's personal life is discovered, it isn't clear whether Randi is still the deceiver - or the deceived.
